12th Conference of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World, was launched with the theme ‘Toward Renewing Cultural Action in the Islamic World’

The 12th Conference of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World, with the subject "Towards Renewing Cultural Action in the Islamic World," began on Monday in the capital city of Qatar. Numerous cultural affairs ministers, delegations from ICESCO member states, as well as representatives of numerous regional and international organisations working in the cultural fields, attended the conference, which was hosted by Qatar and organised by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO).

The conference designated Lusail City in Qatar as the Islamic World's Capital of Culture for 2030. They established the guidelines for creating the ICESCO programmes for the cultural capitals of the Islamic world and proposed several nations as potential hosts. The conference also gave final approval to the establishment of its office for the subsequent meeting, which will take place between 2024 and 2025. Senegal will serve as the Council's vice-president, and Qatar has replaced Tunisia as the organization's president. Qatar will also act as the Council's rapporteur.

Additionally, Sheikh Abdulrahman urged preserving the nation's cultural identity and shielding the next generation from dangerous beliefs. Irina Bokova, a former director-general of UNESCO who was a guest of honour at the conference, praised Islam as a religion of peace and Islamic civilisation as a catalyst for intercultural understanding. Islamic principles, according to her, support science, culture, and cross-cultural exchange. She praised Qatar for successfully transforming the global mega event into a conversation of cultures by hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The conference evaluated the most significant actions and results of Saturday's 18th meeting of the Consultative Council for Cultural Development in the Islamic World.
