The 2nd edition of the Asian Arabic Debating Championship hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, organized in cooperation among the Qatar Debate center - a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the Omani Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Oman Debate center, commenced on Sunday.
Five universities from the State of Qatar will participate in the championship, and these are the universities of Qatar, Lusail, Texas A&M, Georgetown and Carnegie Mellon.
Qatar Debate seeks to spread the culture of dialogue in the Arabic language amongst native speakers and others, and to motivate students to raise the levels of civility, scientifical-approach and language in discussion and debate cultures.
This championship will see 165 debaters representing 42 teams competing over the period of 5 days.
The 2nd edition comes after the championship's outstanding success in its first edition which was held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The Asian Arabic Debating Championship serves as a methodology for the building of a common vision among the youth of different languages and cultures, with a mission to establish rational dialogue as a means of eliminating violence.
The championship will include a number of training programs and competitive rounds, with a total of 320 participants from 18 countries, namely Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, Australia, Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Yemen.
The judges committee is composed of 75 members, most of whom are from the Sultanate of Oman, who have been enrolled in the arbitrators training academy, with the aim of qualifying them to participate in this championship, along with other international arbitrators who are ambassadors of the center and elite members.
