The Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, also known as Lekhwiya SC Stadium is a football stadium in Doha, Qatar. Lakhwiya Football Club is a local league champion in 2012 and 2013. The development is to create a new home stadium for this team. Al Khayyat Development was provided with the brief to carry out a design and build facilities for (not only) the stadium but associated facilities of car parking, gymnasium, and ancillary buildings.
Built over a period of two years across two phases, the first construction phase focusing on the foundations began in early 2011 and was completed in May 2012. The second construction phase which focused on the exterior cladding, and fitting of the stadium took an additional 9 months to complete. The stadium was officially inaugurated on February 15, 2013, with the first match taking place in the stadium being a Qatar Stars League fixture with the home team Lekhwiya facing off against Al Khor.
The official capacity is 9,000 people, and the stadium is located within the complex of the Internal Security Forces in the Duhail district of the capital Doha. The entry process of the spectators is secured through 25 gates around the stadium.
Originally home to just Lekhwiya SC, hence the alternative name for the stadium, the ground is now also home to the local side El Jaish SC. The full name of the stadium is “Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Stadium”.
