Al-Shamal SC Stadium is a football stadium in Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar. It is the home venue of Qatar Stars League team Al-Shamal SC. The stadium holds a capacity of 5,000 people.
Construction of the new football stadium in Qatar's northernmost town of Al Shamal began in 2008. With a capacity of 5,000 people, the ground was opened in 2011. Along with it two side pitches and club offices of the multi-section side Al-Shamal SC.
The club was founded in 1980 and first competed in the first tier of Qatari football in 1986. The club initially only fielded teams in handball and football, but in 1982 branched out to volleyball. In the following years, the club established teams in other sports, including table tennis and basketball.
Its unique feature is the architecture that resembles – very literally – the local monument, Al Zubara Fort. Tall stone walls and four towers in each corner (also mimicking the fort in their shape – three are circular and one rectangular) surround the stands. Each of the towers hides a telescopic floodlight mast.
The distinct castle design of the stadium provides the home team with a sense of a fortress, of course, it is not a real castle but it reflects the Qatari's love for fortified architecture.
