An app providing several services to both Zakat donors and beneficiaries was released yesterday by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs' Department of Zakat Affairs. The app is available on Android and iOS in Arabic. English language will also be made available soon. The announcement was made at the headquarters of the Ministry in a press conference held yesterday.
The app provides Zakat calculation services, allowing givers to determine the appropriate amount of Zakat for gold, silver, and stock market shares, among other assets, and make the payment through Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), according to Director of the Zakat Affairs Department Saad Imran Al Kuwari, who was speaking at the press conference.
According to him, Zakat donors can electronically request the expedited collection service using the app. The app offers a service to people who are qualified for help when they upload the necessary paperwork. He said that when the necessary papers are posted on the application, the service is provided via the app to individuals who are eligible for help.
According to him, the app enables users to obtain a fatwa about the problems and legal precedent surrounding zakat. The fatwa request is submitted straight to legal experts who specialise in zakat fatwas, and the user receives a text message with the response. There are a lot of fatwas on Zakat in the app. It also shows the locations of offices and collecting stations on a Google map and includes account numbers for the department in banks and Islamic banks.
Al Kuwari offered his gratitude to all those who helped with the design and development of the new Zakat Affairs Department app for smartphones. According to him, the Zakat Affairs Department is responsible for gathering Zakat from both people and businesses and allocating it to those who qualify inside the borders of Qatar. Al Kuwari claimed that in order to do this, the administration had split out a number of specialisations, the most significant of which was centred on implementing the required procedures to promote the payment of zakat.
