Ashghal’ announces the completion of school zone safety measures around 611 schools across Qatar

The Public Works Authority "Ashghal" declares the completion of school zone safety measures around 611 schools around Qatar as pupils get ready for the upcoming academic year 2024–2025. This dedication of Ashgal leads to the implementation of several policies aimed at safeguarding young commuters and pedestrians. These initiatives include a range of actions designed to provide safer travel conditions for parents, teachers, and children as they go to and from school every day.

The 673 schools that are a part of the School Zone Safety Programme, which is being implemented in various places around Qatar, are covered by the strategies for school zone safety. Safety measure projects have been completed for 611 schools so far. In addition to Ashghal's noticeable upgrades to some aspects of the surrounding infrastructure, these efforts also include a variety of educational outreach programs aimed at increasing awareness of the need to obey traffic signals and safety instructions near schools.

The Road Operations and Maintenance Department (ROMD) in Ashghal is responsible for building and improving roads while following strict safety guidelines. These precautions, which were put into place by the relevant team in Ashghal, include installing pedestrian railing, interlocks, kerbs, and reflective road studs in addition to directing signage.

Along with enforcing a 30 kph speed restriction and applying road and crosswalk markings, the goal is to improve pedestrian visibility in school zones and surrounding regions. They also include the building of centre islands and micro roundabouts, as well as the supply of parking spots for vehicles, in order to efficiently regulate traffic flow.

Additionally, this year the Public Works Authority "Ashghal"'s Road Operation and Maintenance Department is launching an awareness campaign to promote safe driving habits and best practices among students, their families, and teaching staff.
