In an effort to familiarize high school students with the various specializations and fields of engineering, the Public Works Authority "Ashghal" launched the Future Engineer Program 3 in collaboration with Qatar Scientific Club. The program offers several workshops in various engineering disciplines, noting their significance and benefits.
With 30 students taking part, the program, which started on July 14, will run until July 24. Through workshops and field trips to Ashghal and Qatar Scientific Club departments' laboratories and departments, the student will acquire pertinent and essential engineering knowledge.
Participants in the program will gain knowledge of the duties and nature of the work performed by the Engineering Services Department. The Quality and Safety Department will host tours to familiarize them with safety regulations, the quality of water handled chemically and biologically, and the inspection process for building materials. Additionally, the Drainage Operation and Maintenance Department, as well as the foundations and protocols for drainage system monitoring, will be presented to them. Regarding the Buildings Projects Department, the students will see the design and specifics of any project, as well as be introduced to the specializations of engineers through a presentation on maps.
During the second week of the program, participants will receive training at the Qatar Scientific Club. This will serve as the program's practical component, where they will gain knowledge about sustainable development goals, innovative concepts, and brainstorming workshops. After that, participants will compete against the clock in a hackathon to construct prototypes of their ideas and validate their theories with real-world applications. Finally, the completed model will be shown during the exhibition's closing and assessed by engineers and subject matter experts.
