Criminal Evidences and Information Department (CEID) was established by the ministerial decree No. 3/1991 issued on May 5, 1991. Its terms of reference and organizational structure were set and then amended by the ministerial decree No. 44/2009. Functions include preserving and classifying fingerprints, inspecting locations of accidents, and lifting trace evidence of fingerprints using traditional and chemical methods to utilize in comparing and identifying the individuals through chemical manifesting of fingerprints in order to detect the crimes and arrest its perpetrators and carry out other technical tasks. To document criminal information electronically, provide the investigation, search, and interrogation authorities with the required information in order to detect the crimes and arrest their perpetrators, prepare criminal statistics in coordination with the concerned departments and report to the competent authorities upon request. To receive exile records from the GCC countries through "Arab and International Police Communications Department" and receive Arab and International circulars for internationally wanted persons. To draw crime scene sketches in coordination with other authorities and to propose the annual budget of the Department.
