News EventApplications for the "Screenwriting for Beginners Lab," an Arabic creative writing program, are being accepted by the Doha Film Institute (DFI) through August 15. The DFI website states that candidates must be at least eighteen years old. Emails with the original short film description and logline, the applicant's CV or brief bio, a copy of their ID, and a brief statement outlining their interest in the lab should be sent to training@dohafilminstitute.com.
The lab will run for five days, from September 3 to September 7. The lab will concentrate on creating dialogue and storytelling skills in Arabic to introduce budding filmmakers to the creative process of writing for the screen.
The basics of screenwriting will be covered in the lab, with mentors going over the "architecture" of screenplays (storytelling, guidelines, characterisation, and non-verbal storytelling) and the "formatting" of a screenplay (visual grammar and Celtx/Final Draft).
