The Old Doha port has been renovated to welcome tourists during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It is now transformed attractively, decorated with multi-coloured buildings and landscapes.
Al Raya has reported that the development of the port area into a tourist marina included the construction of the port neighbourhood while providing visitors with many services, including a commercial market, a fish market, retail stores, restaurants and cafes, a hotel, mooring berths for boats and ships and bicycle and walking paths. The port also has a terminal for receiving large cruise ships.
The Doha port is expected to turn into a permanent port to receive cruise ships and become one of the tourist attractions in the heart of the capital. The development project which costed about 2 billion riyals, now has an increased capacity and enables the reception of two super-skilled vessels at once. Qatar expects to attract 500,000 visitors on board cruise ships by 2026.
