The establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Portugal dates back to 1982. In 2009, the two countries signed an agreement to open embassies in their respective capitals, Doha and Lisbon. By virtue of this agreement, Portugal opened its embassy in Doha in 2011.
