Falcon Souq

The Falcon Souq is an amazing one-of-a-kind souq in Qatar that's located next to Souq Waqif. It's a unique souq because it showcases the main part of Qatari society and its rich heritage. Here, you'll find all kinds of falcons, falconry equipment, and accessories along with a special falcon hospital. There are three large falcon sculptures at the entrance inviting visitors in and the Souq's narrow alleyways are dotted with benches so people can sit and enjoy their time there.

You'll get to see these beautiful falcons wearing leather hoods on their head perched in their showrooms, and Qataris buying falcons and their equipment or accessories. You may also see falcon owners showing off their falcons especially during October to March which is Qatar's falconry season. The Falcon Souk is adjacent to Souq Waqif in Doha with lots of underground parking on site and a must see place for visitors and residents alike. Falconry is more than just a sport in Qatar and the Souk is an important centre for enthusiasts and suppliers of the sports accessories and a place where birds are auctioned for high sums. The Souk is predominately made up of shops selling the birds and equipment as well as a purpose built hospital. 

In Qatar, a country where falcons are revered and loved, falcons have traditionally been used for hunting, and such tradition still is pretty much alive. The falcon souq is located in one corner of Souq Waqif where visitors can admire these expensive birds, photograph and sometimes even hold them under the shopkeeper's supervision. The birds are so important here, that the souq has a falcon hospital. If you are lucky, you might find yourself attending a public falcon auction, attended usually only by males, where the prices of a falcon start at $3000.
