The Ministry is specialized in the areas of municipal affairs and urban planning by proposing and preparing urban plans at the state level and supervising their implementation in coordination with the competent authorities, surveying and dividing lands, preparing cadastral maps for the state, managing state property, providing and allocating lands needed for the needs of government agencies, studying the recommendations of the Central Municipal Council and taking action. Appropriate decisions in this regard, expropriating and temporarily seizing real estate for the public benefit, proposing and implementing municipal projects such as buildings, gardens, parks and beautifying plants, supervising the construction and organization of buildings, preparing and implementing systems and programs for public hygiene, supervising the practice of engineering professions, supervising cemeteries and providing services to honor the dead .
In the areas of agriculture and fisheries affairs, the Ministry is responsible for achieving a number of goals, foremost of which is the development of agricultural, water, animal and fish wealth in a way that achieves sustainable development, and to propose and implement policies necessary to achieve food security and supervise strategic food stocks . Providing electronic services to the public as part of its quest to abolish paper transactions within the country's e-government.
The history of the establishment of the first Ministry of Municipal Affairs in the State of Qatar dates back to 1972, by Decree-Law No. (24), which defined the functions of the Ministry and its departments.
