NewsThe development of Qatar's biodiversity database platform is now in its final stages, according to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC). The project's objectives are to develop a sustainable biodiversity database and environmental ecosystem maps to pinpoint key locations for biodiversity across the nation.
As part of the Qatar Digital Government Strategy 2023–2025, it also seeks to create an electronic platform with data on biodiversity, identifying all kinds of plants and animals registered in the nation.
Over the course of the last three days, MoECC had several discussions and coordination sessions that addressed the last steps in finishing the project to create a biodiversity database in Qatar. This was done in collaboration with the World Conservation Monitoring Centre and the UNEP's Regional Office for West Asia.
The work teams in charge of creating the project and the electronic information management platform met for three days straight, going over the timeline for finishing the database in preparation for its deployment this year.
The most recent stages of the project that had been finished were presented during the first meeting, which took place on January 29 at the MoECC headquarters.
Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs, Muhammad Ahmed Al Khanji, Director of the Wildlife Development Department, and Jassim Mohammed Lari, Head of the Marine Wildlife Department, were present at the ceremony.
The MoECC and UNEP project work teams talked about the work plan and next measures to address the obstacles in order to finish the project's remaining stages.
