News128 pupils have been enrolled in public kindergartens (KGs) at the "three-year-old" level, for the academic year 2023–24, by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE). In August 2023, a pilot project to add a "3-year-old" level to four public kindergartens (KGs) was launched with the goal of caring for children as early as three and getting them ready for school. To prepare for eventually extending this stage to all government kindergartens, the Ministry is presently conducting follow-up and evaluation of the trial.
According on the best practises of the most effective educational systems worldwide, the initiative is in line with the Ministry's efforts to invest in the early childhood period. Children who get early childhood education are better able to develop their personalities and their capacity to serve the society. Children's drive to learn rises when they are involved in the early schooling period. The initiative was carried out in kindergartens that are in heavily populated regions as an experiment.
Two boys' kindergartens, Abu Hanifa Kindergarten in Doha Municipality and Al Manar Kindergarten in Al Rayyan Municipality, and two girls' kindergartens, Al-Khwarizmi Kindergarten in Umm Salal Municipality and Rawdat Zekreet in Al Daayen Municipality, are the four kindergartens that have added the "3-year-old" level.
