It is recommended that seafarers check the weather before leaving, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI). To guarantee safety when traveling by sea, the MoI's guidance on X suggested a number of rules from the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security.
Among the rules are informing the family of the intended destination and anticipated time of return prior to going out to sea, making sure a marine compass is available on board, wearing life jackets and keeping life rings close at hand, setting up and using a VHF radio on international channel 16, and staying away from oil facilities and restricted areas.
When registering for sea entry, the instructions also advised seafarers to turn on and keep the Automatic Identification System (AIS) operational.
