The E-Gates service is one of the key services given by the Ministry of Interior to all travelers, citizens, and residents free of charge, saving time and effort spent in line at travel counters.
E-Gates are simple to use, and you only need your Qatar ID card, GCC country ID card, or passport to utilize the system. An initial registration is necessary at the Enrollment Booths located adjacent to the E-Gates.
This service allows passengers, both citizens and residents, to complete their travel processes at Hamad International Airport via the e-gates (HIA). The service saves customers a significant amount of time and effort in order to alleviate the hardship of waiting in line at the HIA passport counters.
How to use the E-Gate service?
Before you can use the E-Gates at HIA, you must first register at the Enrollment Booths located near the E-Gate kiosks. The procedure is fairly simple and only takes a few minutes to complete:
Step 1: Scan your ID card at an Enrollment Booth scanner.
Step 2: Your photograph and fingerprints should appear on the scanner screen. If not, you may be required to have your fingerprints rescanned. Follow the on-screen directions.
Note: Please keep in mind that this is a one-time only procedure. You will be able to use the E-Gates without having to return to the Enrollment Booths once you have registered your ID card.
Once you have registered to use the E-Gates, you must show yourself at an E-Gate kiosk with your ID card:
Step 1 - Scan your ID card or passport at the first E-Gate barrier. The system will record your information, and the glass barrier will be raised, allowing you to enter the E-Gate.
Step 2 - Once you're in the middle of the E-Gate barriers, you'll be directed to allow the system to scan your iris or fingerprint. Stand as directed for the iris scan and remove any eyewear. A thumb or finger is placed on the scanner to perform a fingerprint scan. Scans will be completed in a matter of seconds.
Step 3 - After the system matches and verifies your ID/passport information with your iris/fingerprint scan, the second glass barrier should open, allowing you to go to Security Screening.
Additional Information
If residents or their children over the age of 18 have not previously engaged the service, please visit the office located adjacent to the e-gates to activate and add the e-gate system service via the QID.
The system at the gate communicates the required procedures to the passenger based on the language of the submitted document; if the passenger submits a document in Arabic, he or she is addressed in Arabic; if the passenger submits a document in English, he or she is addressed in English.
