MoT put plans to test the services of electric air taxis and electric delivery planes in early 2025

To further strengthen Qatar's dominant position in the world's transport network, the Third Qatar National Development Strategy (NDS3) places a strong emphasis on leveraging cutting-edge technology, attaining sustainable development, and achieving economic diversification. Experts discussed the most recent developments in autonomous e-mobility during the inaugural virtual meeting of the Autonomous e-Mobility (AEMOB) Forum series, "The Future of Air Mobility: Innovations & Emerging Trends,". The area of air mobility is shaped by several factors, such as the deployment of air taxis by 2025, norms and laws, market competitiveness, societal integration, and technological problems and possibilities.

Shahram Tahmasseby, Research Associate, Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre, Qatar University, addressed the webinar and emphasised how the autonomous air taxi has been integrated into Qatar's transportation network. Artificial intelligence and sophisticated navigation systems might be used to enable autonomous or semi-autonomous flights, eliminating the need for human pilots and improving operating efficiency. This would allow air taxis to operate autonomously or semi-autonomously. It's also critical to integrate machine learning and real-time data analytics to improve aircraft routes and dynamically control air traffic.

The internet of things (IoT) may be used to connect air taxis to urban infrastructure and facilitate data sharing for smart city integration. This allows real-time data sharing for weather and traffic management updates. In line with its recent intentions to carry out its strategies aimed at creating and managing an integrated mobility ecosystem in Qatar, MoT announced plans to test the services of electric air taxis and electric delivery planes in early 2025.

This move will improve the integration, coherence, sustainability, and environmental friendliness of Qatar's public transport system.
