Mowasalat (Karwa) used electric vehicles that helped prevent over 1.6 million kilograms of CO2 emissions

During the first half of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Mowasalat (Karwa) used electric vehicles transported passengers over a distance of more than 1.8mn kilometers, which prevented over 1.6 million kilograms of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions. 

Mowasalat shared the information in a tweet where it said that during the first half of the tournament (November 20 to December 6), 900 electronic buses (e-buses) were used as tournament bus services and as eco-friendly public transport. The total service duration of electric vehicles was 141,309 hours, while the total distance covered was 1,848,393 kilometers. The total CO2 emissions reduced amounted to 1,684,256 kilograms, which is equivalent to the absorption of 12,205 trees for 1 year. 

Qatar is the first World Cup host country in the world to use a large fleet of electric buses, and electric and hybrid taxis, which greatly reduces the environmental impact of the massive tournament. Mowasalat e-buses are built to meet the local weather conditions and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure a safe, smooth and sustainable ride. The public transport fleet during the World Cup will leave a legacy for the sustainable transportation system of Qatar, according to Mowasalat.
