Number of EV charging stations operated by the Kahramaa crossed 200

In order to satisfy the nation's aim of reducing its carbon footprint for sustainability, the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points is rapidly growing.

Recently, a 150 kilowatt fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station was erected at the Shura Council headquarters by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa). This station can charge two vehicles simultaneously in less than 15 minutes.

Following the launch of this new station, the Kahramaa now operates 200 EV charging stations, with an ambitious plan to reach 1,000 stations by 2030.

The EV station has been inaugurated as part of the initiatives to assist clean technology adoption and sustainable development, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Shura Council, according to Kahramaa on the X platform.

In support of national initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, the charging station will facilitate access to cutting-edge charging options for electric car owners and Shura Council personnel.

Muhammad Al Sharshani, head of Kahramaa's electric vehicle charging unit, stated that Kahramaa, as represented by the Tarsheed National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, is crucial in supplying the infrastructure required for EV charging stations.

Fast charging stations are being set up in public and private parking lots, hotels, malls, government buildings, and Woqod stations. The installation of the electric vehicle charging stations is being carried out in collaboration with the National Strategy for Charging Stations for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in Qatar Steering Committee.

The committee's objectives include creating regulations and facilitating infrastructure for electric vehicles. Its members come from the Ministry of Transport, the General Directorate of Traffic, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Kahramaa, and other organizations.

In order to establish and approve the minimum technical specifications and safety standards of electric vehicles (EVs), as well as to establish a center for inspecting and verifying EVs' compliance with specifications and issuing the necessary approval certificates, the Ministry of Transport is currently studying the standards and specifications of EVs in collaboration with the relevant bodies.
