Qatar Airways’ inaugural flight from Doha to Medan landed Kualanamu International Airport

NewsOn Monday, January 15, the first-ever aircraft operated by Qatar Airways from Doha to Medan landed at Kualanamu International Airport, becoming Medan the airline's third destination in the Republic of Indonesia.
The award-winning airline will add the new direct route to its more than 40 weekly flights to Jakarta and Bali. The State of Qatar was represented at the inaugural event, which was organised by the award-winning airline in partnership with the "Years of Culture" to celebrate the successful conclusion of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture, by H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Minister of State and President of the Qatar National Library.
Through more than 50 activities in both countries, Qatar-Indonesia aimed to celebrate the distinctive features of Indonesian culture and forge long-lasting connections while expanding awareness of Qatar as a centre for the arts and culture, tourism, education, and sports.
As the 2023 Year of Culture between Qatar and Indonesia draws to an end, the new route to Medan strengthens the bonds between the two countries. At the departure gate of Hamad International Airport (DOH), cupcakes and music were served to travellers at the inaugural event. As the first flight, QR966 carried dignitaries and high-ranking government officials. Upon arrival at Kualanamu International Airport, they were greeted with a water cannon salute.
