Qatar Museums invites submissions of paper abstracts for “The Future of Museums and Museology Practices in a Changing World” conference

The International Council of Museums (ICOM), the International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM), the International Council of Museums - National Committee for Qatar (ICOM Qatar), and the ICOM-Arab Regional Alliance are pleased to invite abstracts for a forthcoming conference titled "The Future of Museums and Museology Practices in a Changing World." Paper abstract submissions are welcome. The National Museum of Qatar will host the conference on December 1-3, 2024.

In order to highlight the critical role that museums play in tackling climate change and fostering various narratives, the conference seeks to involve young people in important conversations and decision-making processes.

It will examine museology methods in the Arab world with an emphasis on innovative, sustainable, and teaching approaches. Using modern technology, co-curation, striking a balance between historical viewpoints, and sharing information across generations are some of the topics that will be covered. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2030 of the United Nations, the event seeks to advance a sustainable museum industry.

A number of subjects will be covered during the conference, such as "Good Practices in Museum Training and Education," which will look at collaborations, a range of skill sets, and educational approaches to support a strong network of museum workers in the area. Furthermore, it will centre on Resilience and Accessibility in Museums, addressing global issues, improving accessibility, and showcasing accomplished initiatives in line with the SDGs and Agenda 2030 of the UN.

The conference will also cover Technology and Innovation in Museums, with the goal of enhancing visitor experiences by utilising state-of-the-art technology like artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality.

ICOM members, researchers interested in museology, specialists in museums and heritage, members of civil society, and stakeholders in the private sector are encouraged to submit abstracts for the conference.
