Qatar National Library has launched its inaugural fellowship programme

The first-ever fellowship programme of the Qatar National Library was introduced to enable researchers and artists working in Qatar to investigate, commemorate, and record the nation's rich past. The Library is calling on researchers, historians, photographers, and filmmakers with a track record to take advantage of this exceptional chance to dive into the Library's legacy holdings and produce relevant and interesting material on Qatar's past aimed at the larger community. Applications are being accepted until August 20th to participate in this wonderful programme.

Selected applicants will have six months beginning on October 6, 2024, to use the Library's vast resources and cutting-edge spaces. This will enable them to create engaging content by drawing heavily from QNL's extensive library of inspiration.

There will be two options available for the fellowship: research and documentary. The former is more suited for scholars, professors, and researchers, while the latter is more popular among photographers and filmmakers.

To apply, candidates should fill out the online application form at the Library and include a comprehensive proposal explaining their desired research topic, goals, and how their work can advance fresh understandings of Qatar's past. Along with these documents, the candidate must provide a resume, a portfolio of their accomplishments that includes at least two prior projects, and two reference letters confirming their qualifications.

Throughout the fellowship, recipients will receive a monthly stipend in addition to the staff's assistance at the library. Outstanding pieces may also be chosen for the Library's Qatar History Project (Thakira), giving the fellows' creative efforts more visibility and acknowledgment.

Applications will be assessed on their originality and inventiveness in addressing the fellowship themes, feasibility of their project plan, prior work experience, and qualifications. Acceptance notifications will be issued by September 26, 2024. Within three months after finishing their research fellowship, fellows must turn in a research paper; for the documentary fellowship, they must turn in a final report along with their creative works.
