According to a senior official, Qatar's public transportation system will be changed to 100% electric as a result of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 legacy.
Khaled Hassan Kafud, Director of Public Relations and Communication Department at Mowasalat, stated that the massive athletic event "has built a legacy for the transportation system of Qatar." (Karwa).
He claimed recently that Qatar has an advanced sustainable transit system with eco-friendly buses. The entire Qatari public transportation infrastructure will be converted to eclectic, according to Kafud. In addition to the public transit buses, he claimed that Mowasalat (Karwa) operated about 2,500 eco-friendly school buses that carried over 60,000 pupils each day.
Speaking of the Lusail Bus Depot, he noted that it has a capacity of 478 buses and holds the record for being the biggest electric bus depot in the world. In accordance with Qatar's National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE) objectives, Lusail Bus Depot depends on solar energy for charging as it has approximately 11,000 PV solar panels that produce 4 megawatts of power daily to power its buildings.
He claimed that they have access to food, entertainment, and secure lodging. Al Khatib added that the accommodations "include a gymnasium that hosts sporting and entertainment activities."
Mowasalat (Karwa) had prepared 4,000 buses, more than 18,000 employees from 90 different countries, and thousands of highly trained drivers for the World Cup.
Another first was the use of nearly 900 electric buses, which decreased the event's carbon footprint by 18,078 trees' worth of CO2 emissions.
On a larger scale, Mowasalat also wants to add to the ecological target of the Qatar National Vision 2030. This is part of the company's stated sustainability goals.
