NewsIn an effort to increase the State of Qatar's LNG production capacity to 142 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) before the end of this decade, or nearly 85% more than current levels, QatarEnergy has announced that it is moving forward with a new LNG expansion project, the "North Field West" project.
The announcement was made today at a news conference held at QatarEnergy's headquarters in Doha by HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy and Minister of State for Energy Affairs.
HE Minister Al-Kaabi made the announcement during the press conference that large-scale testing and appraisal drilling had shown that the productive layers of Qatar's massive North Field stretch westward, allowing for the development of a new LNG production project in Ras Laffan.
Along with massive amounts of liquefied petroleum gas, ethane, and helium, HE Minister Al-Kaabi also revealed the presence of enormous additional gas quantities in the North Field, estimated at 240 trillion cubic feet. This increases the State of Qatar's gas reserves from 1,760 to more than 2,000 trillion cubic feet, and the condensates reserves from 70 to more than 80 billion barrels.
The Minister also stated that QatarEnergy would start the fundamental engineering work required to guarantee that the anticipated advancement is made in compliance with the authorised timeline for this new project, which will be known as the North Field West project, right away.
The North Field East project and the North Field South project are two of the components of the North Field production expansion projects that QatarEnergy is still working to accomplish, it continued.
