It is currently used mostly for football matches and is home of the football team Qatar Sports Club. The stadium was opened in 1985 and holds 15,000 people. In 2010 it hosted the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix, the first meeting of the 2010 Diamond League. Some of the matches from the 2011 AFC Asian Cup were held in this stadium. In March 2014 it was announced that the stadium would host the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships.
The Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium is based in the Dafna neighborhood of Doha and hosts QSL games for Qatar SC. The stadium also has a rich athletics history and has hosted a number of significant championships. It is currently home to two Qatar Stars Leagues Teams: Qatar SC and Umm Salal SC.
Equipped with an athletics track around the perimeter of the pitch, even the furthest away seats in the ground are afforded decent views thanks to the compact design of the stands which seats 15,000.
The highest profile football matches held at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium to date have undoubtedly been those of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. It was one of five venues selected for the international tournament which was hosted by Qatar.
