NewsThe Fall 2023 grant cycle will start on 3 July according to the Doha Film Institute (DFI), providing a special chance for filmmakers, directors, and screenwriters to get money for their works. Anyone working on a film, television show, or online series is eligible for the funding. The grant application round will run from July 3 to July 12, according to the DFI website. Doha Film Institute offers detailed criteria and instructions at dohafilminstitute.com/financing, where interested candidates can submit their applications.
The project caters to Qatari and foreign first- and second-time directors as well as seasoned Middle East and North Africa (MENA) directors, offering both creative and financial help for short and feature-length films. Additionally, if TV and online programmes match the DFI's qualifying requirements, financial help is possible.
Every year, the DFI provides two grant application seasons. the Fall cycle, which begins in July, and the Spring cycle, which begins in January. This enables filmmakers to plan and prepare their movies in accordance with the production and creative timeframes that they have established.
For feature-length productions, money is available for development, production, and post-production for candidates residing in the MENA region. Only production financing is available for short films. For feature-length productions, established MENA directors may submit an application for post-production financing. Additionally, MENA directors may get production financing for online series, while MENA screenwriters can access development funding for TV series.
Additionally, first- and second-time filmmakers from outside the MENA region are eligible to apply for post-production financing for feature-length films. The DFI aspires to assist new talent by promoting creative and varied storytelling that has a broader appeal.
In addition to fostering honest storytelling, the Doha Film Institute Grants Programme aims to discover fresh perspectives and emerging filmmaker potential. The organisation is proud to back initiatives that advance the cinematic canon and advance it as an artistic medium.
The TV fiction and creative documentary series development award, meanwhile, aims to support independent MENA producers and screenwriters in creating original serialised content for global audiovisual markets. Additionally, the award for online fiction and creative documentaries assists independent producers and filmmakers from the MENA area in funding the creation of new serialised material for the web.
