The 12th edition of National Sport Day (NSD) was marked yesterday across the country with participation of government and private entities.
Thousands of citizens and residents, young and old, gathered at different venues including Katara, Aspire Zone, Education City, MIA Park, Lusail Boulevard, among others to celebrate the day with a renewed commitment to embrace healthy lifestyle with the help of sports and physical fitness.
Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani participated in the activities of the National Sport Day, which was held under the slogan “Choice Is Yours”. His Highness practised walking in Souq Waqif area. H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation led the walkathon ‘Walk For a Cause’ held in aid of Turkiye and Syria at the Education City.
The Sport Day is viewed as an opportunity to bring communities closer through sports based on team building, inclusion, unity, participation, fitness and health principles.
Taking part in the NSD, Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim affirmed that the state’s support for sports and encouraging all segments of society to practice it is an integral part of its interest in human development as stipulated in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani participated in a number of activities of the National Sport Day (NSD). His Excellency took part in the activities of the children of Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, Al Noor Center for the Blind, and Orphanage Care Center - Dreama.
The NSD in its 12th edition witnessed wide participation from all segments of society in the early hours of the morning. Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) organised various activities on the occasion, along the waterfront and Katara Beach, with the participation of several ministries, government and private agencies and institutions.
Among the most prominent entities that participated in these events were the Qatar Football Association (QFA) in cooperation with Qatar Shell, the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee, Hamad Medical Corporation, the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s Al Reyada Girls Center, Doha Bank and Qatar Insurance Company.
The Ministry of Public Health, the Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and Naufar Center also organised yesterday, a march on the National Sport Day at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City. On this occasion, many sports, entertainment, and awareness activities were held for employees and their families. In celebration of NSD, the Ministry of Transport and transportation sector entities participated in exciting sporting and recreational events for employees and family members.
Also, the Ministry of Labour organised various events and activities to mark the day at Aspire Park, with the participation of the Ministry’s employees, their families and the general public. Aspire Zone hosted many events in Aspire Park, including volleyball and football competitions, Taekwondo and Tae-Boxing performances and classes, and several other activities.
