The 6th Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians began on June 26, in Doha. It was organised by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the UN Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, which is located in Doha, in collaboration with the Shura Council.
Speaker of the Shura Council HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, together with members from parliamentary unions, national parliaments, and pertinent regional and international organisations taking part in the conference, attended the inaugural session.
The two-day conference intends to increase the involvement of female lawmakers in the creation and execution of laws and policies, facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences amongst female lawmakers worldwide, and raise public awareness of the critical role that women play in the fight against terrorism.
