NewsIn the Education City Stadium final on Friday, ten-man Al Sadd defeated Qatar SC 1-0 to win the Amir Cup for a record-tying 19th time, with Mateus Uribe scoring the game's winning goal in the 118th minute.
After Pedro Miguel, the substitute, missed his first attempt and the ball bounced off a defender, the Colombian midfielder tucked the ball into the left corner to give Al Sadd its first Amir Cup victory after losing the previous two. In the previous year's final, Al Arabi defeated them 3-0.
After playmaker Akram Afif was sent out in the 109th minute for a potentially deadly tackle on Bruno Tabata, the Wolves survived a late scare.
After a goalless draw, Wesam Rizk's Al Sadd had dominated the game and had a few of their chances hit the woodwork as the game headed into extra time.
The loss put an end to the excellent performance of the Youssef Al Noubi-coached Qatar SC, who had advanced to the championship match and defeated Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa along route. This was their first trip to the final in twenty years.
