NewsThe capital of Qatar, Doha, made it among the top 50 cities in the world for the first time since 2018 according to the most recent Kearney's Global Cities Index. Doha ranked 50th overall, up seven places from 2022 (57th), mostly because of the nation's notable advancements in the Human Capital dimension. In the preceding years, Doha was placed 53rd (2021), 68th (2020), 61st (2019), and 63rd (2018).
The rise of the capital city of Qatar was also fueled by the restoration of international travel to pre-pandemic levels, which attracted a lot of tourists and migratory talent. Qatar 2022 hosted more than 1.4 million tourists during the FIFA World Cup.
In addition, the city's ranking for business activity increased by six points, propelling it into the top 50 and continuing to profit from the open economic policies that have been implemented recently. The well-known indicator from top global management consulting company Kearney shows the start of a shift in the conventional order of global cities.
In the meantime, Doha dramatically rose in the Global Cities Outlook rating following a few years of stagnation. In the most recent edition, Doha ranked 68th overall, up 16 spots from 2022 (84th). In that order, Doha was rated 63 in 2018, 66 in 2019, 95 in 2020, and 107 in 2021.
Doha was one of the emerging centres that saw tremendous growth, which helped create a new distributed geography of opportunity. Doha has risen to second place in the area and into the top 50 due to its rapid expansion as a worldwide hub for sports, tourism, and events.
The Global Cities Index (GCI) measures a city's capacity to draw in, hold onto, and produce international flows of people, money, and ideas. Cities are evaluated based on five main factors: corporate activity, political involvement, cultural experience, information interchange, and human capital.
