Doha Municipality organized a large-scale inspection and awareness-raising campaign of food outlets at over 155 hotels

In an effort to welcome summer and boost hotel visits from families and people by the end of the school year, Doha Municipality has planned a thorough inspection and awareness-raising campaign of food outlets at over 155 hotels.

In addition to food inspectors, over thirty veterinarians took part in this 15-day surveillance campaign. Municipal control department representatives also attended, organizing health awareness sessions for over 620 workers at hotel facilities about the importance of food handlers' roles in the food chain, clearing up any misconceptions about the causes of foodborne illnesses, and the proper application of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).

Furthermore, a total of fifty-five food item samples were gathered and sent to the Central Laboratories Unit for additional analysis in order to verify their safety and compliance with standard criteria.

In order to carry out the health policies pertaining to everything related to food safety, the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the surveillance authorities in municipalities, was given broad authority to conduct the campaign under the terms of Law No. 8 of 1990, which regulates surveillance on foods consumed by humans.

The campaign also aimed to stop the distribution of any food that did not meet the requirements by raising awareness and monitoring of food and the areas where it is handled in order to guarantee safety and suitability for human consumption.
