NewsIn an effort to save energy and assist the airport's expansion goals, Siemens and Hamad International Airport (DOH) have teamed up to optimise the airport's district cooling infrastructure. The project, which will be finished in November 2023, will help Hamad International Airport achieve its environmental sustainability targets, which include a 30% reduction in carbon efficiency by 2030.
The district cooling infrastructure at Hamad International Airport consists of five plants, each having a 62,000-ton output capacity, to meet the airport's cooling needs.
The airport partnered with Siemens to take advantage of its patented Demand Flow technology from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, which enables digital transformation in industry and infrastructure faster and at scale. Phase B of the airport's expansion is currently underway, and the goal is to reduce the amount of electricity required for cooling.
Hamad International Airport significantly decreased its CO2 emissions by more than 5,000 metric tonnes since implementing the new Siemens solution in 2021. It is anticipated that this decrease will have reached 16,000 tonnes annually by 2024.
