QNB and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) have teamed to allow retailers that QNB has acquired to accept Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments via QR codes. This change would enable smooth UPI transactions for Indian tourists at all QNB payment locations, including airports, lodging facilities, tourist destinations, dining establishments, and retail stores.
The agreement will allow Indians, who make up the second-largest group of foreign visitors to Qatar, to conduct transactions in real-time throughout the nation, reducing the need for cash and preventing currency exchange. The adoption of UPI in Qatar broadens UPI's worldwide reach and encourages interoperability.
