Inspection campaign by Doha Municipality; to ensure compliances on the controls of plastic bags

The institutions, companies, and shopping centres have been prohibited from using single-use plastic bags in packaging, presenting, circulating, carrying, or transporting products and merchandise of all kinds from November 15, 2022. Doha Municipality carried out an inspection campaign in factories and companies specialised in the production of plastic bags in the Industrial Area recently. The Ministry of Municipality in a statement said, the inspection aimed at ensuring their compliances with decision of the Minister of Municipality No 143 of 2022 on the controls for the use of plastic bags. The allowed alternatives include multi-use plastic bags, biodegradable plastic bags, paper bags and canvas bags (woven).

Plastic bags are to be replaced with multi-use plastic bags, biodegradable bags, bags made of paper or “woven” cloth and other biodegradable materials, which conforms to the approved standard specifications. The decision stipulated that “the plastic bags, according to their category, shall be printed with a symbol indicating that they are degradable, reusable or recyclable.”
