Katara announced the opening of registration for the 8th Katara Quran Recitation Competition from July 17 to October 17

The 8th Katara Quran Recitation Competition registration will be open from Wednesday, July 17 until October 17, according to a statement released by the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).

The Katara Quran Recitation Competition aims to honor the exceptional and creative readers, discover and foster exceptional talent in reading and reciting the Quran, and showcase to the world the world's most eminent readers in accordance with Tajweed. It also aims to inspire the next generation of readers to uphold their religious convictions and recognize their responsibilities towards their faith and the Islamic message.

The screening committee will review all submissions and choose the top 100 competitors to move on to the qualifying round, which will take place in Doha. Twenty television episodes with five competitors each will feature the 100 qualifiers in the competition. One of them will go to the semi-finals.

Twenty contenders and five reserves will participate in five additional episodes during the semi-finals, with five contestants in each episode. Every episode will have one qualifying competitor moving on to the finals. The top three finalists will be revealed, and the episodes will air in a special show produced in association with Qatar TV during the fasting month of Ramadan.

Six people make up the award jury: three are professionals in Tajweed regulations and Quranic interpretations, and three are experts in Maqamat (melodic modes).

Katara will be producing a CD for the winner, reciting the entire Quran, in Katara's studios.

The winner of the Katara Prize for Quran Recitation will get a total of QAR 900,000, with the runners-up taking home QR300,000 and the third-place winner taking home QR100,000.

The General Directorate of Endowments of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has supported the Katara Quran Recitation Competition since its founding in 2017.
