Ministry of Municipality has provided containers to about 80 percent households in Doha to boost recycling practices

According to a senior official, the Ministry of Municipality has given containers to around 80% of Doha households so they can sort waste at the source in an effort to promote recycling practices for sustainability and the circular economy.  According to Eng Hamad Jassim Al Bahr, director of the Waste Recycling and Treatment Department, "the General Cleanliness Department is placing blue containers beside grey containers for disposing of recyclable materials and organic waste separately under the second phase of the waste sorting at source program." He explained that this is a component of a five-year strategy that the General Cleanliness Department, on behalf of the Ministry of Municipality, adopted to give two different kinds of containers: grey and blue.

An annual conference and exhibition called "Recycling Towards Sustainability" is organized to promote recycling for sustainability. This year will be the conference's fifth iteration, according to Al Bahr. 

Al Ajfa, which is situated in the Mesaieed Industrial Area, some 40 km south of Doha, is being developed as a hub for the recycling sector. In Al Afja, fifty plots of land have been set aside for the construction of recycling factories for plastic, paper, wood, oil, medical waste, and organic waste, among other materials.  According to Al Bahr, the nation needs these recycling facilities to lessen the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

The trash Recycling and Treatment Department promoted the nation's "sorting out waste at source" initiative, which includes homes, businesses, factories, and institutions as per Al Bahr, in order to lower the burden on trash management.
