MoECC called upon picnickers to use designated path during their visits to meadows and green areas to preserve the plant ecosystem

As the weather becomes pleasant following Thursday's rain, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) is urging picnickers to stick to the approved path when visiting meadows and open spaces to protect the plant ecology. It advised against driving over meadows.

"Our local environment is our national heritage, and by following the instructions of the authorities concerned, we can preserve it and contribute to its growth," the Minister stated in a post on the X platform.

To warn drivers and discourage cars from entering meadows, the ministry has erected signboards near the meadow regions. In addition to protecting these areas, the ministry patrols parks and nature reserves to help and advise visitors.

MoECC is working to preserve and improve the surrounding ecosystem. Planting trees and other vegetation in meadows during the rainy season is one of the restoration procedures. In 1995, Law No. (32) made it illegal to damage plants and other vegetation. It forbids automobiles and other mechanical devices from moving randomly through plantation zones. In such regions, vehicles should only utilise the approved roadways.

Many of these locations have been designated as protected by MoECC. The Department of Natural Reserves at MoECC noted many instances of running over grass and plants in January of this year.
