NewsThe public is being reminded by the Ministry of Interior (MOI) that smoking is not permitted in any metro vehicle, station, or on any other type of public transportation.
Fines for violations can range from QR1,000 to QR3,000.
The MOI underlined the need of abiding by Article 17 of Law No. 10 of 2016 on tobacco control, which forbids smoking in enclosed spaces in order to protect public safety, in a recent video message posted on its social media accounts.
Because tobacco is not grown or manufactured in Qatar, it is one of the few nations where tobacco smoke pollution is almost nonexistent.
Strict laws are in place to forbid smoking indoors and to stop tobacco products from being sold to people younger than eighteen. Furthermore, tobacco products cannot be sold within a mile of educational and training facilities, such as schools.
Moreover, Qatar provides a wealth of services to assist smokers in quitting through the HMC's Tobacco Control Center, a WHO Collaborating Center, which offers all the assistance required to overcome this detrimental habit.
