MoL has announced procedures to change residency from family to work following a newly launched e-service

NewsIn response to a recently released e-service, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) has revealed the steps for switching from family to work residence. By converting their permits to be used "for the purpose of work," residents of Qatar who have non-work permits, such as family residency visas, can now enter the workforce.
The new employer initiates the procedure by applying to the Ministry of Labour's e-platform to add the resident as a worker. According to the regulations, a smart card is required to confirm the identification of establishment staff who are permitted to access the service through the National Authentication System (NAS).
According to a post on X by MoL, the phone number supplied by the institution in the request must correspond with the phone number linked to the worker's QID. The people need to get their National Addresses recorded. Before accessing the Ministry of Labour portal, candidates must additionally register with the National Authentication System. The system requires the Establishment Card (EID) to be operational. The new employer should not be placed on personal suspension, and the employee should not be the subject of any further applications for the same position.
The MoL portal now offers the new option under the heading "request to join the labour market (change from family residency to work residency)". The procedure may begin with the worker seeking to enter the labour market by inputting the data of the new employer, or it may begin with the new company applying to add the resident as an employee.
Depending on whether a few requirements are satisfied, the request may be accepted or denied. If approved, the new employer pays online, the contract attestation processes begin, and the information on the approval of the residency change is automatically sent to the Ministry of Interior (MoI) for the ultimate execution of the resident status change.
Launched just last week, the programme is designed to help private businesses in Qatar by streamlining the hiring procedure for locals, saving money and time compared to hiring foreign workers. By giving residents work opportunities, the programme gives them the ability to actively engage in and contribute to the local labour market, empowering them.
The new services' debut is in line with the Ministry of labour's plan to build digital infrastructure for the labour sector in a way that facilitates and streamlines the services offered to ministry clients. By doing away with the need for physical document submissions and office visits, the Ministry of Labour hopes to simplify procedures.
By providing thorough online services that are easily available to everyone working with the ministry in the labour market, they are achieving this goal. At MoL, the "Agile" engineering methodology is employed by the Digital Transformation Team to improve and modernise electronic services. New services and monthly upgrades can be launched using this manner.
