Ninth Local Fresh Dates Festival 2024 attracted over 50,000 visitors, sold over 240 tonnes of fresh dates

NewsThe 9th Local Fresh Dates Festival sold out over 240 tonnes of fresh dates, which is 10% higher than the previous year. Over 50,000 people, including tourists, attended the 12-day festival from July 23 to August 3.
The administration of Souq Waqif worked with the Ministry of Municipality's Agricultural Affairs Department to plan the event. 240,172 kilogrammes of fresh dates were sold throughout the event. With 105,333 kilogrammes sold, the Khalas variety saw the most sales, followed by Khunaizi with 45,637 kilogrammes. Shishi and Barhi dates have respective weights of 42,752 kg and 27,260 kg. 19,190 kilogrammes of various types were sold.
Khalas, Shishi, Khunaizi, Barhi, Iraqi, Sukkari, Zaghloul, Sultana, Al Ghar, Nabat Saif, Lulu, Razizi, and Shihab were among the most well-known varieties on display at the event.
The event fits into the larger picture of Qatar's strong commitment to promoting and supporting domestic products, particularly dates, as the nation's date harvest season falls during this time frame.
In addition to supporting farmers and those interested in palm cultivation, it seeks to increase food security, improve the nation's fresh date supply, and educate people about contemporary agricultural practices and experience-sharing in order to produce the best and finest fresh date varieties.
