Public transport sector achieved record numbers in its operations during World Cup

The Ministry of Transport announced that the public transport sector achieved record numbers in its operations services provided during the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup tournament, on Tuesday. It has moved approximately 26.8 million visitors and fans.

The ministry indicated in a statement, that more than 18 million and 416,000 passengers were transported on the Doha metro, and 829,741 passengers used the Lusail tram, while approximately 150,800 persons used the tram in the Educational City, at the same time, Msheireb tram transported more than 27.6 thousand passengers.

The ministry noted that the total number of bus service users exceeded 7.368 million passengers, in addition to 315,122 taxi trips, and that more than 8,274 million transactions were registered by passengers through the carriers' online applications during the period from November 20 to December 18.

Regarding air transportation, aircraft traffic at both Hamad and Doha International Airports recorded 26,425 air traffic.

In terms of securing supply and supply chains to serve the country's vital economic sectors and to meet the requirements of the World Cup, Qatar Ports handled 125285 standard containers and more than 131 thousand tons of general goods between November 18 and December 18, in addition to handling 6755 units of equipment and cars, 1910 cattle by receiving 146 multi-special vessels at the Hamad Port and 105 vessels at the Ruwais Port.
