Qatar ranked the second most peaceful country in the MENA region

In the 18th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2024 published by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), Qatar is placed as the second most peaceful nation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and 29th overall among 163 countries that account for 99.7 percent of the world's population.

The GPI measures the condition of peace in three domains: the degree of militarization, the magnitude of ongoing domestic and international conflict, and the level of societal safety and security. It does this by using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators.

Kuwait, with a 1.622 score, is ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and 25th globally. Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations include Bahrain (2.072), Saudi Arabia (2.206), United Arab Emirates (1.897), Oman (1.761), and Qatar (1.656). Their respective rankings on the index are 53rd, 81st, and 102nd.
