The Qatari team, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, participated in the three-day competition which included three students from Qatar University, Community College of Qatar (CCQ) and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), claimed the Merit Performance Award at the Huawei ICT Competition Middle East Regional Finals 2022, held in the Omani capital Muscat.
Addressing the competition’s closing ceremony, Vice-President of Huawei in the Middle East and Central Asia Chunli Wang said the competition reflected the company’s commitment to nurturing technical talents at the regional level. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Wang praised the Qatari student team, which won the award for outstanding performance, after several months of national and regional competitions amid the participation of the brightest young minds and leading academic institutions in the region, despite their elimination from the Huawei global competition, which will be held in Shanghai, China, next year.
Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information of Oman, Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani said that holding the competition came at a time when Muscat was chosen as the Arab digital capital for the current year, hailing the Sultanate of Oman’s great capabilities and a coherent digital infrastructure.
Anis Al Taroudi, a software engineer at HBKU and the supervisor of the Qatari team participating in the tournament, told QNA that the distinction of the Qatari team is ascribed to their training and education during their preparation, especially with the tools provided by Huawei to the participants, expressing optimism about the performance of the Qatari teams in the upcoming editions.
