NewsRumailah Hospital (RH) of Hamad Medical Corporation has been named the first Age-Friendly Health System in the Middle East, having received the prestigious Level 2 designation as "Committed to Care Excellence." This esteemed recognition, bestowed by the US-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and its founding partners, accentuates RH's resolute dedication to providing exceptional care to senior citizens and bolsters Qatar's Third National Development Strategy.
The recognition of RH is a major turning point for the Middle East as a whole, not just for Qatar. The Age-Friendly Health Systems program is a project that tries to change the way older persons get healthcare. It uses the 4Ms paradigm, which stands for Mobility, What Matters, Medication, and Mentation.
Having opened its doors in 1957, RH is the oldest hospital in HMC and has set the standard for other medical facilities in the area by being the first to fully implement these crucial, evidence-based practices.
This innovative project has been spearheaded by Dr. Hanadi Khamis Al-Hamad, Medical Director of RH and Deputy Chief for Long-Term Care, Rehabilitation, and Geriatrics at HMC.
