Second issue of Tajseer Peer-Reviewed Journal for Humanities and Social Sciences Studies published by QU

Qatar University Press has published the second issue of the fourth volume for the year 2022 of the Tajseer Peer-Reviewed Journal for Humanities and Social Sciences Studies. This was issued in cooperation with the Ibn Khaldon Center for Humanities and Social Sciences. Researchers from several Arab countries participated on this issue, which includes various research studies as well as chapters on translation, book reviews and reports.

The first research paper titled, “Translation and Cultural differences in Arabic Literature” conducted by Researcher Selma Mohammad Abdullah Bahechwan found a link between translation and the migration of texts between cultures and that dominant cultural desire to obliterate submissive cultures. The second research paper was titled, “The Lexicon of Ethics in TahaAbdul Al Rahman's Blog: A Methodological Introduction to Study the Ethical Conception” written by researcher Mohamed Houmam, focuses on translation of philosophical discourses, especially those relating to ethical concepts and deals with the methodological dimension in studying the ethical concept.

The following part includes three practical, field, case studies, with the first one titled: “The Environmental Movements and the Ecological Justice challenges in the Arab region: The case of Lebanon, Tunisia, and Morocco by Elhabib Stati Zineddine. The study aimed to reveal the implications of the concept of environmental movements and their developments, and to determine the effectiveness of their work and their ability to bring about the desired cultural change in some Arab countries.

The second study is titled “Syrians in the Turkish curriculum, Social studies textbook as a model:  An analytical and descriptive study” by researcher Muhammed Nur Alnamer, who analysed texts of lessons related to the Syrian issue in social studies books. The third study in this section was titled “Constitutions and Penal Codes in the Maghreb: A study of the relationship between individual freedoms and Islamic Authority” by Khalid Chokhmane, who focused on the issue of individual freedoms in these constitutions and criminal laws.

As for the translated piece, Iraqi Hana Khalief Ghani translated the article “Does sociology need decolonization” By Alicia Izharuddin in which she reviewed three books that investigate the intellectual significance of decentering Eurocentric models in sociology. 

The book review part includes reviews of two books, the first is titled Interlinguistics, by Khaled Huwayyir Al Shams and reviewed by QU Professor Abdul Salam Hamed.

The second review is of the book Islam, Authoritarianism, and Underdevelopment: A Global and Historical Comparison by Ahmet T Kuru, reviewed by Dr. Abdulkadir Salaudeen from Nigeria.

This issue was concluded with a report on one of the panel discussions of Ibn Khaldon Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, Qatar University.
