One of the biggest worldwide investors, Shell Eco-marathon, is getting ready to be hosted in Qatar under the auspices of Qatar Museums Chairperson, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The event, which is scheduled to take place at the Lusail International Circuit in the first quarter of 2025, is to empower young people to create a Sustainable Energy Future for the nation. Richard Tallant, Executive Vice President of GTL and Managing Director of Shell Companies Qatar made the news at Web Summit Qatar 2024 alongside college students who participated in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East regional championship the previous year.
A global academic initiative called Shell Eco-marathon challenges student teams to create and produce fuel-efficient cars that can go the most distance with the least amount of gasoline. It seeks to motivate young people to become top scientists and engineers of the next generation of energy solutions while pushing the envelope of what is technically feasible.
With the help of the programme, teams may investigate all facets of design and technology. They can use their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) knowledge to construct their own highly energy-efficient vehicles and compete with them on the racetrack.
Using specially designed vehicles, teams from Qatar University, Texas A&M Qatar, and University of Doha for Science and Technology will participate at the 2024 Asia-Pacific and Middle East regional tournament in Indonesia in July.
Urban Concept and Prototype are the two vehicle divisions in which student teams can compete. Urban Concept automobiles more closely resemble passenger cars and contain characteristics seen in road cars. Ultra-efficient, lightweight cars with the potential to shatter records for the least amount of fuel used are found in the prototype category. The company wants to encourage and assist the upcoming generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators in their search for sustainable solutions through the Shell Eco-marathon.
