NewsLast May, the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) released the second edition of the Qatar Open Data Portal (www.data.gov.qa), a national platform for open data and information designed to international standards. MCIT created the portal's initial version in 2019. The responsibility for operating and managing this portal has been transferred to PSA since the beginning of 2023, and the PSA team is currently working on building an open data platform that includes many topics, through a national partnership with the relevant ministries and government agencies to provide data according to various topics, which are easily displayed in different forms commensurate with the nature of the materials posted and the needs of users.
PSA President H E Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabit congratulated all stakeholders in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the PSA team for their efforts in bringing the latest edition of the Qatar Open Data Portal to the public. Al Nabit observed that the United Nations Statistical Commission, in its fifty-fourth session in March 2023, emphasised that open data offers a foundation for ensuring access to data for everyone, for use and reuse. Data production and dissemination are determined by factors other than technical definitions. Rather, it crosses a value chain of socioeconomic and environmental data that is accessible and made available on the portal on a regular basis for the public to profit from and enhance knowledge.
Dr. Khalid Ali Al Quradaghi, Director of the Information Systems Department and Advisor to the Office of the PSA President, said that the success of the Qatar Open Data site is dependent on partners' continued commitment to provide information to the site. Population, price indices, commerce, ecology, energy, economics, and other themes are covered in the Portal. PSA has begun releasing the 'Qatar; Monthly Statistics' bulletin on this platform, which includes data from 2018 through 2023.
PSA will continue to add new statistics, graphs, and other visuals to the statistical section on a regular basis. The webpage now offers thorough statistics, including data from the previous five years, organised by numerous national development subjects. Concerning the other technical features of the Qatar Open Data site, "we will work with partners in ministries, government agencies, and others to provide and upload the required data to the portal in order for it to be used in the best possible and effective way."
