NewsThe 17th International Coastal Symposium (ICS) will be held at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) from September 24 to 27, 2024, in Doha. For the first time in the 34-year history of the ICS, the event is taking place in the Middle East, which is a major turning point for scientific cooperation and coastal research in the area. The symposium, titled "Coastlines under Global Change," got underway Wednesday.
Leading coastal scientists, engineers, researchers, and politicians from across the world have gathered for the event. The Ministry of Transport and Seashore Group is the symposium's sponsor. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is involved as a sustainability partner, Visit Qatar is the destination partner, and the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI) is a strategic partner. The occasion will provide a forum for discussing cutting-edge studies and creative responses to the major issues that coastal communities face globally, such as rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and climate change.
The ICS 2024 will focus on important subjects such decarbonisation of the marine industry, coastal evolution and shoreline change, climate change's effects on coastal ecosystems, marine and coastal engineering, and coastal management, policy, and planning. The purpose of these talks is to provide fresh concepts and approaches for the preservation and sustainable growth of coastal areas.
