25% of public transport vehicles in Qatar are now eco-friendly

The Peninsula newspaper reported on September 19, 2022 that 25% of Qatar's public transport fleet has been successfully switched to eco-friendly mode.

A 25% conversion by 2020 aims to make 25% of public buses electric by 2022. By 2030, public transport and school transport are expected to be 100% eco-friendly.

Report, Transport Minister H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti said, “We have surpassed the target of converting 25 percent of public transport to eco-friendly mode. By 2030, public transport and school transport will be completely eco-friendly.

According to the article, public buses, government school buses and Doha Metro feeder buses will be converted to electric vehicles by 2030.

As part of this initiative, all Karwa city taxis operated by Mowasalat (Karwa) have been converted into hybrid electric eco-taxis by May 2022.

Eight bus stations equipped with electric charging stations will operate in the areas of Al Sudan, Industrial Area, Al Wakrah, Education City, Luzail, Garafa and Emshairub via Mowasalat (Karwa). West Bay Central Bus Station is expected to be operational by November 2022.

Also, electric buses will be operational in the 2022 World Cup, marking the first time this edition of the tournament will use electric mass transit buses.

A drive to gradually convert privately owned vehicles is underway with 30 fast electric car charging stations installed around Qatar by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahrama).
